BIG XII CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

MIZZOU LOSES UGLY

Texas A&M sprinted to an early 10-point lead and never let Missouri get much closer as the Aggies moved into Friday's Big XII semifinal action against Texas.

The 71-86 loss eliminated the Tigers(23-10) from tournament title contention and gave Mizzou a couple of extra days of much-needed practice time before learning its NCAA future on Sunday.

The Tigers came out cold and stayed frigid throughout the game, settling for contested jumpers and missing everything else. The 3rd-seeeded Aggies (24-7) made everything they looked at. MU shot 19-56 from the field, including 3-15 from deep; but they did make 30-37 free throws. A&M hit 26 of 45 field goals (8 of 16 from beyond the arc) and 26 of 34 free throws. The teams combined for 51 fouls.

It was an ugly game. Not much more to say. MU looked bad again, but Wednesday's win over Texas Tech should have clinched an invitation to the big tournament. For the time being, I have Missouri seeded 8th in the Southeast Region, playing 9th seed Washington.
